Gallery Director & Co-Owner

As Gallery Director and co-owner of Parsons Fine Art and Parsons Gallery of the West, I am fortunate to spend each day surrounded by extraordinary art, artists, and collectors. My passion lies in building meaningful relationships and helping connect people with artwork that inspires, resonates, and becomes part of their story.

Growing up in both of our family-run galleries, I had the opportunity to learn from Robert from a young age. I value his knowledge, business sense, and guidance throughout my career. I’ve been fortunate to say I have been doing this most of my life.

With two different locations in the historic district of downtown Taos, NM. Parsons Fine Art specializes in the Taos Society of Artists and the Early Taos Art Colony, preserving and celebrating the artists and works that helped establish Taos as one of the most important art communities in the American West. Parsons Gallery of the West showcases contemporary Western art, representing some of the most talented living artists whose work carries forward that same creative spirit of the old Taos Masters in fresh and compelling way. One of the most rewarding aspects of my work at Parsons Gallery of the West is discovering and nurturing artistic talent. Currently the artists we represent are carefully selected by myself, not only for their technical skill, but for their unique voice, dedication to their craft, and potential for long-term growth. Many of the artists in our program began their professional careers with the gallery, and it has been incredibly fulfilling to watch them evolve into some of the most respected contemporary Western artists working today. I value building lasting relationships with our artists, and I take great pride in supporting their careers, celebrating their successes, and helping share their work with collectors who appreciate their vision. Watching an artist’s journey unfold over the years is one of the greatest privileges of being a gallerist.

Through thoughtfully curated exhibitions, special events, and community partnerships, our galleries strive to create welcoming spaces for everyone to experience the beauty, history, and power of art. Beyond placing artwork in private and public collections, we are deeply committed to supporting arts education, cultural preservation, and philanthropic initiatives that enrich our community and inspire future generations! It is incredibly rewarding to help share the stories behind the art we represent while contributing to the vibrant artistic legacy that continues to make Taos such a special place.

Robert Parsons

Founder and Co-Owner

Robert L. Parsons, founded Parsons Fine Art in 1986. Although his background was in horticulture and farming and ranching, he quickly transitioned into becoming an art dealer while moving from his home in North Texas to Taos, New Mexico.

A passion for early antiques led to a strong interest in early Navajo textiles beginning in 1981. When the business first opened in the 1980s, Parsons dealt almost exclusively in Navajo weavings and antique American Indian material. By the 1990s, the gallery had shifted its focus more toward paintings by the Taos masters while still showing a selection of fine Navajo textiles such as early classic Navajo child’s blankets.

Parsons still enjoys the hunt of finding great art for the gallery and interacting with collectors. “My years of collecting weavings and Taos art have given me a rich understanding of the history of the land and the legacy that is Taos, and it is a pleasure to watch Ashley carrying on that tradition”
