This blanket, in a banded blanket format, simply repeats in multiple zones a single classic period element, the single stepped triangle or “little hats.” The light indigo blue in the interim bands over cochineal-dyed bayeta is dramatic. It is beautifully woven with a simple but fully classic group of elements, creating yet another blanket design from its time. This is a piece that is most appealing in person. The cochineal-dyed bayeta is beautiful as is the light indigo blue, both of which are lost in reproduced images. I have seen numerous examples and versions of this layout on Late Classic blankets from the 1870s, confirming its continued popularity with the early Navajo weavers. The blanket measures 48” x 30” with cochineal-dyed bayeta, light indigo blue, dark indigo blue, and handspun white.
